Thiru Anbil Divyadesam - Sthala Puranam - Once there was a discussion between Lord Bramha Devar and Saint Valmiki about the beautifulness of Lord Vishnu in HIS Sayana Posture. This conversation led them to the debate with each other. Lord Vishnu appeared before them and said "In Sayana Posture I am beautiful in Thiru Anbil". Hence Lord Maha Vishnu here in Thiru Anbil is being worshipped as "Vadhivazhagiya Nambi". Thiru Anbil Divyadesam is related to two great creators. The whole world was created by Lord Brahma Devar. Valmiki Maharishi, the great saint had lots of built-in good thoughts.

Both these two persons are very good examples of creating good things and dedicating those to the world. Hence this temple is calle as "Anbil". In Tamil Anbu means Love. Moolavar of this Thiru Anbil Divyadesam is Vadivazhagiya Nambi in HIS Bhujanga Sayana - Kidantha Thirukkolam, facing East. Mandooga Mahirishi -. Mandookam, in Sanskrit refers to a frog. Once when Manduga Maharishi was in penance under the water. Saint Dhuruvaasar waited for him on the water shore for a long time. Since Mandoogar had not turned up, Dhuruvaasar cursed him to become a frog. To get relieved from the curse Saint Mandoogar and to regain his human form, he came to this place and did penance towards the Almighty. He observed the penance for here one mandalam - 48 days and at the end he had a holy bath in the temple tank. Pleased Lord Maha Vishnu at last gave him His Prathaksham and whipped off the curse given by Dhurvaasa Mahirishi and made Saint Mandoogar to regain his old form. Hence the temple tank is being worshipped as Mandooga Pushkarini and earler the temple was also worshipped as Mandoogapuri.

Once when Thirumazhisai Alwar came here to worship Paranthaman,. He was teased to a great extent by the local people over there.. He thought of teaching them a lesson and sung a song on the Almighty to appear on him and make the people know that he is His adherent devotee. Lord Vishnu came out of Alwar and appeared here as Vadhivazhagiya Nambi and showed the devotion of Thirumazhisai Alwar. To all the creative people, the things what they see looks good and beautiful. Like the same way, Moolavar here in Thiru Anbil is Vadivazhagiya Nambi and Thaayar is Azhagiyavalli Naachiyar showing Sundhara Swaroopa Dharshan ( Blessing in Very Beautiful Posture ) Sundaram means beautiful and Swaroopam means the posture.
